Collaborating on the project are (l-r): Edward Dunn, Grant City Manager, Michelle Ross, Perkins County Chamber of Commerce; Amy Thelander and Stephanie Miller, Southwest Nebraska Community Betterment Corp.; Melissa Wilson, Kevin Poppe and Don Softley, Grant Community Redevelopment Authority; Janet Lagler, Perkins County Community Foundation Fund.

Southwest Nebraska Community Betterment Corp. (SWNCBC) along with the City of Grant’s Community Redevelopment Association (CRA) are working hard to combat the housing shortage in the City of Grant by placing two new homes on two vacant lots. Grant funds awarded to SWNCBC from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s (NDED) Affordable Housing Trust Fund, along with matching funds from SWNCBC, Grant’s CRA, Perkins County Chamber and the Perkins County Community Foundation Fund (PCCFF) equaling $566,000 in total have made this project possible. The CRA has also provided and prepared the two vacant lots located at 204 Hancock Avenue and 604 Garfield Avenue for the houses to be placed on. SWNCBC feels this project is a great start to addressing the housing needs in the City of Grant and Perkins County. This project involves all local contractors. Noyes Quality Homes will be building the homes in their facility, using materials from Adams Lumber, and utilizing local HVAC, plumbing and electrical services. Star House Moving of Grant will move and place the homes on basement foundations.  The Perkins County Schools Building Construction Class will be constructing a detached double car garage on each property as part of their 2022-2023 school year projects. Each home will be a 1,440 sq. ft. three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with a 1,440 sq. ft. unfinished basement, which will include two egress windows and roughed in plumbing for a bathroom. It is SWNCBC’s goal to have the first house completed at 204 Hancock Ave. by late fall 2022, and with the balance of the grant funds and proceeds from the sale of the first house the second house will be built and placed at 604 Garfield Ave. by the end of 2023. Anyone interested in more information about the homes, or are interested in pre-purchasing one of the homes, please contact Amy Thelander at 352-4338 or stop by SWNCBC’s offices at 115 E. 3rd Street, Grant.
